Classes
Another important aspect of Biblical discipleship includes classes that study a specific subject over a distinct duration of time. Harambee classes include...Introduction to Harambee Class
If you are new to Harambee, this is the perfect class for you to learn more about the mission, values and vision of Harambee, and we'll answer any questions you may have about Harambee.
Foundations Class
This 10 week class runs through our doctrinal beliefs addressing the following topics: Scripture, God, The Holy Spirit, Jesus & the Resurrection, Spiritual Warfare and Disciplines, Stewardship, and The Church.
Gospel & Culture
Gospel & Culture is a class looking at the effects of our culture on our gospel, and how we need to help shape the communities we live in by living and proclaiming God’s love to those around us.
Gnosis
A university-level Bible class covering topics that range from Hermeneutics (sound Bible study principles) to Spiritual Formations (the disciplines needed to walk closely with Christ over the long haul) to Exploring Worldviews (a close look at comparative religions such as Buddhism, Hinduism, Humanism, Secularism, Materialism, Taoism, etc.). Topics change quarterly.
Movies with Meaning
Ideas about God are everywhere and not all houses of worship have steeples. This is a time where we gather to experience the stories that are impacting our culture through film. At times they are funny, at others, frightening. Some are uplifting while others are sorrowful. Occasionally the stories are shocking - just like the Bible.
In practice, it is a lab of sorts - to not only experience films, but also to think critically about them through intentional post-screening discussions. As a church, we believe we are called to engage in the culture God has placed us in, not flee from it. The Movies with Meaning Class is where we put this belief into practice. It is a chance for us to practice the tension of listening to the culture around us while learning to become storytellers ourselves, all the while holding the Gospel in ultimate regard.
Practical Life Seminars
Albert Einstein was quoted as saying, “Science without religion is lame, religion without science is blind.” Whereas this may be true, a more accurate statement would be “Theology without practice is lame, practice without theology is blind.” The Bible is an intensely practical book and is meant to be read and used as an authority in our life’s decisions and our life’s practice (2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:3).
Our practical life seminars help us utilize the biblical gems that relate to us in very practical ways. We are developing seminars in the areas of marriage, parenting, finances, prayer, evangelism / apologetics, life mapping, social action strategies, etc. These seminars are designed to help us live out our theology in pragmatic ways. We are called to glorify God in everything we do (1 Corinthians 10:31), which means that our theology must touch every area of our lives and not serve as a tool for self-aggrandizement and argument.
Too many Christians have a segregated approach to living. We have our “spiritual” life, which consists of church, prayer, and bible study; but we move on to our “real” life, which consists of work, family, and leisure, without realizing that we have disconnected our spiritual life from our physical existence.
Romans 12:1 reminds us that our lives are an act of worship, and not merely a meaningless series of events strung together with no purpose. Our spiritual life is holistic and encompasses everything we do. At Harambee, our Practical Life Seminars hope to connect the dots of our life, which can help us flush out our theology in practical and meaningful ways.
